Voices are Action #5
On this episode: report ‘Lords of the Land’; the upcoming Peoples' Summit in Brazil; and report ‘Economy of Genocide’

On this episode of Voices are Action, we discuss three central issues:
1) From 12 to 16 November, the Peoples’ Summit will be held in the Brazilian city of Belém, in the state of Pará, in the Amazon. This summit is the response of social movements around the world to a new edition of the UN Climate Change Conference -COP30-, which will take place from 10 to 21 November in the same city.
Kirtana Chandrasekaran, Climate Justice and Energy Coordinator at Friends of the Earth International, gave a presentation on 3 July at the Brazilian National Congress in Brasilia, addressing the political agenda of the Peoples’ Summit.
2) Ten transnational landowners control 404,457 km2 of land, an area similar to Japan or Paraguay. We discuss the report ‘Lords of the Land: Transnational Landowners, Inequality and the Case for Redistribution, published in June by FIAN International and Focus on the Global South. We listen to Luciana Rolón, one of the authors and researchers of the report.
3) Francesca Albanese, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, wrote a report highlighting the corporate network surrounding the genocide and crimes against humanity being committed by the Zionist state of Israel in Palestine.
The report is titled ‘From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide,’ and it points not only to the typical companies that profit from wars, conflicts, occupations and genocide, such as arms manufacturers, but also to a much larger network that includes financial and educational institutions and technology corporations.
