10 December: Human Rights Day
Don’t stop talking about Palestine
In order for me to write poetry that isn’t political
I must listen to the birds
and in order to hear the birds
the warplanes must be silent.
Marwan Makhoul
This 10 December is undoubtedly marked by the endless human and collective rights violations against the people in Gaza and the West Bank, where there is an ongoing genocide and ecocide, perpetrated by Israel and led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
That is why Friends of the Earth International and Real World Radio decided to focus their contents on this day on International Solidarity and a ceasefire NOW! demand. Below you can listen to Abeer Al Butmeh, from PENGON / Friends of the Earth Palestine.
More than a year has passed since the fateful 7 October, but the attacks against Palestine are historic. “This is part of a continuum that started in 1967 with the occupation and theft of Palestinian land for a colonial regime, while the Gaza Strip has been subjected to an arbitrary and illegal 17-year-long blockade. The current war creates environmental destruction that makes Gaza one of the worst ecocides in recent history,” wrote Abeer Al Butmeh, establishing a clear link between environment, life and human rights.
The struggle for human rights and peoples rights is a struggle for a Free Palestine.
