Palestine: Activist Abu Saker and his son arrested

In the early hours of Wednesday 29 July, Abu Saker and his 22-year-old son Sakher were arrested by Israeli soldiers and held for 20 hours, without food or water.

The police accused them of “stealing water” from Israel’s national water company, Mekorot, which -in fact- “illegally appropriates Palestinians to serve, among others, Israel’s settlement project”, reported the website Stop The Wall [1].

Saker is a leading activist in the popular struggle and defense of the right to water in the Jordan Valley since the 70s, and member of the Global Campaign to Reclaim Peoples Sovereignty, Dismantle Corporate Power and End Impunity

The environmentalist federation Friends of the Earth International expressed their solidarity with the activist and his family, and stated that “the attacks must be investigated and Israel must be held accountable”.

We share the interview the Real World Radio did to Abu Saker in October 2016, during the negotiations of the Intergovernmental Working Group of the United Nations Human Rights Council that is negotiating a Binding Treaty on Transnational Corporations and Human Rights, with session in Geneva, Switzerland.
